Los Angeles, CA

Trimming Clinics - I have numerous folks trying to get a clinic set up in the LA area. Please contact me if you're interested in being involved and I will put you in touch with the clinic host!

The format is very informal, bring chairs, a hat, a bag lunch and water, and call the host if you want to have your horse trimmed. If you are bringing a horse, please bring a water bucket, hay and be prepared to buy boots if the horse is shod.

We generally start at 10:00 am on the first day and 9:00 am on the second, and finish between 5 and 7 pm - or whenever everyones brains are full and they give up! We sometimes have dinner together on the first night.

Trimming Clinics - This is an ongoing clinic that began March 2006. We've worked with some very interesting horses at each clinic, including several navicular rehabs and foundered horses. There are quite a few competitive working cow horse and trail riders in the group. New members are always welcome! This is a mid week clinic.

There are several trrimmers working in this area, but there are a few folks trimming their own horses who want retrims, so let us know if you're interested in attending.

Training Clinics vs. Trimming Clinics

Training Clinics are set up so that attendees receive a full day (usually 8 to 12 hours) of trimming information ranging from determining hoof balance to tool use. The focus is on explaining barefoot principles to an audience of 10 or more people utilizing 6 to 10 horses. The information discussed is determined by the pathology of the horses in the clinic and audience questions.

There is a $75 attendance fee and a $40 per horse trim fee. Attendees bringing horses pay attendance plus a per horse trim fee, or $115 for attending with one horse. The advantage to doing this is that the emphasis is on explaining what is going on with that horse and training people to recognize problems and understand their resolution, not just getting the horse trimmed.

Trim Clinics - Private trims are set up so that I can afford to travel 3 or more hours to a location to trim a minimum of 8 to 12 horses per day. The emphasis is on minimizing my travel time and the distractions so that we are getting the best trim on each horse and answering the owners questions. It isn't a training situation, I'm trimming and consulting with owners and their trimmers/farrier's. Private trims cost $75 per horse.

We attempt to schedule Trim Clinics and private trims following Training Clinics; Trim Clinics are demand driven and need to be arranged in advance. Please let me know in advance if you need boots or equipment!
