Medical Terms used to describe anatomical location
ANTERIOR: Toward the front or the head.
CAUDAL: Toward the tail, away from the head.
CRANIAL: The front surface of the limb. Toward the head.
DEEP: Away from the surface.
DISTAL: Away from the torso. Opposite of proximal.
DORSAL: Toward the back or back side.
LATERAL: Extending away from the middle.
MEDIAL: Extending toward the middle.
PALMAR: Toward the sole of the forehoof. Companion to Volar.
POSTERIOR: Toward the back or the tail.
PROXIMAL: Toward the torso. Opposite of Distal.
SUPERFICIAL: Close to the surface.
VENTRAL: Toward the front, or abdominal side.
VOLAR: Toward the sole of the hindhoof. Companion to Palmar.
