At this point I fell in love with Pete's fun approach to understanding balance and learning about equine podiatry.
"Look Maw, No Hoof Jack!"
Pete doesn't use a hoof stand; he prefers to hold the horses feet as he trims.
On this hoof, Pete went around the hoof twice with his nippers, first to get the bottom edge of the bevel, then again to add the "Mustang Roll". He used the rasp to smooth the edges where necessary. I do most of this work with a rasp and Hoof Jack.

How to Trim Horses That Can't Hold Their Feet Up?
I use this approach with older horses, PMU horses and some drafts, and it also works well with horses that have string halt or who are extremely foot sore.
