Herbs for Pigeon Fever "Health Support"
The first 3 herbs are to help with the detox process:
Dandelion leaf powder
Milk thistle seed powder
Cleavers powder
The next 4 are to help boost the immune system:
Kelp powder
Garlic powder
Meadowsweet powder
Nettle powder
Mix equal parts of all the powdered herbs. Feed 1 tablespoon once a day for 3 days, then increase to 2 tablespoons for 3 days, and then 4 tablespoons for the next 8 days. Re evaluate at 14 days, increase or decrease depending on how horse is responding.
Two great places to shop for herbs are: http://www.herbalcom.com/ or http://www.horsenherb.com/
I use grapefruit seed oil or extract diluted with water to flush out the wound, and used Scarlet Oil sprayed lightly around the wound to repel flies. Grapefruit seed dilution can burn if not diluted correctly, and some horses get a rash from Scarlet oil, so be cautious about using these and if in doubt, contact your vet for their recommendations
