- Although there are some
differences, these trim styles
are conservative and are modeled
on the Mustang hoof.
Strasser
Trim - The hoof is trimmed
to a rigid ideal. For more information

Martha
Olivo Trim - A Strasser-type
trim that emphasizes riding
more and trimming less combined
with implementing a "horse-healthy"
living environment.
Farrier
Trim - Most farriers
provide what is commonly referred
to as a "field trim"
or "pasture trim",
which involves nippering the
wall so that it is slightly
longer than the sole and rasping
it smooth at the edges with
a flat base. This is similar
to a trim done prior to shoeing
but the wall is left longer
on the premise that it provides
protection to the exposed sole.
Most farriers routinely trim
the sole to create concavity
and trim the frog, although
this isn't always the case.
