Maple

PMU Filly &
Self Trimming Hooves

10/2005   The first thing people probably notice about Maple is her big feet... Maple is a 4 year old PMU filly who has never been shod. Her barn manager fondy refers to her as "Pancake Feet" and laughs that the local farriers don't know where to start with her.

Maple has naturally good feet. The main problem people have with draft crosses is accepting that their feet aren't maent to be as tall as they are wide. Problems like uncontrolled flair and cracking are very common, but also very easy to control.

I adore Maples sweet disposition... like all draft crosses, she tends to be very sweet. A youngster who hasn't had much done ith her feet, she's a fairly good girl until the dinner bell rings, then all bets are off. She doesn't diet willingly and begs to be freed from her cross ties in a very compelling way.

When owner Elizabeth doesn't fall for her rolling of the eyes and hopefull looks, she resorted to antics captured by the camera, below. Maple tries to convince us that she really, **really** understands how the Hoof Jack works!

All of the pictures below are before pictures from our first trim. We were running late so dodn't get a chance to take an After set of Maples feet.
