11/3/2009 - Real Results 18 Months Later

Sometime between May and June of 2009, Jen and Robin really got serious about using toe wedges, and we started to see great results.

I included a lot of these trimming shots because they are cute... I trim very casually, horses relax and really enjoy it, and I love seeing what they do when my back is turned...

As we start to trim at this point, 14 months into rehab, these feet look so much better than when we started, but Rosey still prefers to weight the club foot.

To the right , I show my quick way on comparing angles... I look at heel angle by placing the edge of a hoof pick perpendicular to the heel and looking at the triangle formed by the hoof pick edge, heel and ground. The heel angle on the long-toe foot is still much lower before I started trimming.

Removing Shedding Sole & Bar

He's shedding a lot of sole and bar at this point, and his frog is also shedding out. This is the one time when I use my nippers a lot. The shedding material peels off easily.

I'm really careful with the under slung heels. I want to bring the landing back as far as I can without lowering them, so use a heel bevel applied with the fine side of the rasp.

Thinning Wall Quarters On Long Toe Hoof

I continue to follow the sole determining wall distance from the sole, and bevel the quarters on the long-toe foot to see if I can get the corronet band to change and the heel to straighten up.

I want that heel angle to come back!!!
