Spring 2012 Distal Limb Anatomy & Dissection
When: Sunday, May 13, 2012
Clinician: Linda Cowles http://HealthyHoof.com or TBD
Location: Flag Foundation's Equistar Farm http://www.theflagfoundation.org/
2920 Thorn Road, Sebastopol, CA 94572
This dissection clinic will explore the hoof and lower leg while learning to “read” the hoof in order to trim it appropriately. We will have specimens that allow us to cover the essentials of normal & pathalogical hoof anatomy.
This class begins by introducing attendees to The Glass Horse Distal Limb software, explaining its operation as it is used to review basic distal limb anatomy. Then we will examine a wide variety of preserved anatomy specimens, bones and hoof capsules.
Following that, we will dissect several cadaver specimens to understand the healthy interaction between tendons, joints and bones. We will examine common pathology such as reverse palmer angles, DSLD, medial lateral imbalance, navicular syndrome, long toes etc. using photographs, radiographs and venogram to understand the role of the farrier and trimmer in trimming pathological hooves to improve soundness and functionality. If we have time, we will also explore internal structures such as lamina and corium under the microscope.
Fee $150
